Best Pineapple Upside Down Cake Recipe

Best Pineapple upside down cake recipe is simple and easy to follow and can help you with setting up an event that follows tropical décor as a theme. For the most consistent results the use of a yellow cake mix should be used. Use the directions on the box to include the eggs but replace the water with pineapple juice. This is not the juice from the pineapple slices, which is moistly just sugar water. To help make the cake extra moist, the use of a 4 serving size vanilla pudding can be added to the cake mix. Another option you have is to replace the vanilla pudding with cheesecake pudding.

The pan itself should be coated with butter instead of those spray-on non-stick items. This will help to add to the creamy flavor of the pineapple upside-down cake. The oven should be preheated to 350 F.

The creamy covering for the cake should be placed in the bottom of the pan first. This should consist of ½ cup of melted butter with 1 cup of brown sugar mixed thoroughly.

The pan should then be layered on the bottomed with pineapple slices with a cherry in the middle. Maraschino cherries are the best for this. Some people prefer to use only half a cheery for the hole in each pineapple. I prefer to use two halves. It just adds to the flavor I like. A single layer of pineapple slices should be sufficient. I have seen where two layers were used, but the topping of the cake slide off after it was turned over and released from the pan. It was not very attractive, but is did taste good.

One addition many people use is the placement of walnut halves on top of the pineapples before the cake mixture is added. This is a personal choice you will have to make.

Once all of the topping ingredients are placed in the bottom of the pan, the cake mixture should be added. This should be done evenly as you fill up the pan.

The pan should then be placed in the oven that has been preheated to 350F. It should remain there uncovered for about 35 to 45 minutes. To know when the cake is fully cooked, stick a toothpick in the center. When it comes out without any cake on it, the cake is done. The edges of the cake will appear to be a little brown. This is normal.

Once out of the oven the cake should be flipped as soon as possible. This will help to prevent the pineapples, cherries and the buttery topping from sticking to the bottom of the pan so the best possible appearance of the cake can occur. It also helps the melted butter and sugar to ooze down the sides of the cake.

Once the cake it’s cooled it is ready to be the center piece of your table using tropical décor as the theme. You can accent the table with pineapple salt and pepper shakers. While they will not be needed, they do add to the ambiance of the table setting.
